Coaster Brake
With Glerc’s easy-to-use rear coaster brake, stopping feels just as fun as riding. Kids can slow down or stop simply by pedaling backward — a simple, safe way to build confidence and control from their very first ride. Every little stop is a big step toward riding on their own.

They provide the perfect mix of balance, traction, and cushion — helping kids stay steady and safe on every adventure, from the driveway to the park.
FAQs
What sizes does the Starry come in, and who fits each size?
Glerc Starry comes in 4 wheel sizes covering ages 2-10:
12 inch bike — riders 33"-37" (ages 2-4)
14 inch bike — riders 35"-43" (ages 3-5)
16 inch bike — riders 38"-50" (ages 4-7)
18 inch bike — riders 42"-55" (ages 5-10)
All 4 sizes share the same BMX-style frame and coaster brake setup—just scaled up.
What is a "BMX-style" bike, and is the Starry a real BMX?
The Starry is a BMX-style kids bike, not a competition BMX. It has the iconic BMX look—straight handlebars, single-speed drivetrain, and low standover frame—but it's designed for everyday neighborhood riding and learning, not for tricks or ramp jumping. For true freestyle BMX bikes with pegs, see our Cubsala BMX collection.
How does the coaster brake work, and is it good for kids learning to ride?
A coaster brake is a back-pedal brake: to stop, your child simply pedals backward and the bike slows. This is the most intuitive braking system for first-time riders because it doesn't require hand strength or lever coordination. The Starry coaster brake bike is a popular first pedal bike because of this—kids focus on balance and pedaling without worrying about handbrakes.
What accessories work with the Starry?
The Starry is compatible with universal kids bike accessories: helmets (S size fits 12"–14" Starry, M fits 16"–18"), front lights, bells, and replacement parts (tubes, pedals, grips). It does not ship with a basket, but you can add one if needed. Training wheels are included on all 12"–18" sizes and most riders remove them once balanced.
How much does each Starry size weigh, and when should we size up?
Approximate weights: 12" ~20 lbs, 14" ~23 lbs, 16" ~24 lbs, 18" ~27 lbs (please verify against the spec chart). Sign it's time to size up: knees hit the handlebars when pedaling, the seat is at max height and feels low, or your child has grown past the upper height range. The next size up keeps the same BMX-style frame and coaster brake setup.
